A NaNoWriMo Journal

A blog of the agony and ecstasy experienced while attempting to write a fifty thousand word novel in thirty days.  I did mention agony, didn't I ?

Day Twenty Nine  -

I  AM NOW OFFICIALLY A 2012 NANOWRIMO WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!

All that hard writing has paid off.  DEVILSPEAK  is done... at least the sh%@ty first draft stage is.  All novels have to go through this stage and I am so glad to finally have it behind me.    I am putting this baby to rest until at least January and maybe longer.  Now on to getting ready for Christmas which, sadly, I find a much scarier prospect than writing 50,000 words in one month.

See you next year!

NaNo Day Twenty Eight

Day Twenty Eight  -  the home stretch at last.  Only two days left and I am at 48,935 words.  I did over 2300 today and I could probably have gone on but as I near the finish line I find that I need a real ending for my story.  The words really flowed today but I'm so beat again that I don't think I would be capable of writing a satisfying ending today.  So I'll do more tomorrow and even when I hit 50,000, I'll continue on through the next day if that is what it takes to learn the end of my story.

NaNo Day Twenty Seven

Day Twenty Seven  -  OMG!  I am so worn out my fingers can barely type this.  I did 2354 words today.  Three days and 3371 words to go.  I can't wait to be finished.  I think the story will be good someday when I've recovered enough to start editing.  One big problem with it is that while I have lots of scary stuff going on and my protagonist reacts appropriately when it happens, afterwards she just kind of accepts and goes on with her life.  If it were me, I'd run screaming out of the house and either never go back or at the very least I'd be telling everyone I saw about it.  Oh well, that's what revisions are for - to make your story make sense.

I'm giving myself an arbitrary 'One glass' today - not because I didn't earn more but because I'm too darned tired to enjoy it.

NaNo Day Twenty Six

Day Twenty six -   EXHAUSTED!   That is the only description of how I feel today. I took yesterday off from writing and from my computer for the most part.  I thought I'd be rested and ready to roll today.  Well I was rested until I started writing.  I managed 2403 words.  The best part is that they are words I am happy with for a change.  The problem is more poor old arms and hands and fingers are absolutely exhausted.  Over 44,000 words in 26 days is a lot of work.  I only have a few more days to go to finish this year's NaNoWriMo and I  can't wait for it to be done.   It will be so nice to think about something else for a while...  except of course it will be December and that means, gulp, Christmas!!!   I'd rather be writing!

Day Twenty Four  -  WOO HOO!!!   A record writing day for me.  I added 3042 words today.  Yep that is Three Thousand Forty Two!!   My fingers are too tired to type this now and I'm betting my shoulders will ache later but it was all worth it.  I have other things to do tomorrow so even if I don't write a word on Sunday, I will still be ahead of the game for day 25.  I would award myself a whole bottle today but I'm so excited I'm afraid I might actually drink one too!  So I'll give myself a three glass day instead.

Day Twenty three -  This should have been an exceptional writing day.  My characters have been invading my head the past two nights when I go to bed. I've been making notes and was ready to really kick it into high gear today.  I don't know what happened. All I managed was 1370 words.  I should have gotten started first thing this morning, instead I ran errands and did other things till late afternoon and suddenly my enthusiasm was gone.   Maybe tomorrow will be better.

Day Twenty One -  It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood today so I 'held' NaNo outside this afternoon.  Absolutely gorgeous weather must have inspired me.  I almost met my goal in less than an hour.  I would have too except my Netbook started to run out of juice.  But I did finish up my work when I came inside for a total of 1759 for the day.  That puts me at 37,460 for the month to date.  Which allows me a day and a half cushion.  So I am taking Thanksgiving off!        Happy Turkey Day everyone!

Day Twenty -  another day where I spent most of my time typing short synopses about future scenes.  I'd much rather be typing the actual scenes but this is helping me to get a handle on the big picture. Tomorrow I can choose from any of these scenes to get back to work.  I added a whole slew of words (over 3000) but I won't take victory laps since they didn't propel the story forward...YET.  At least I've stockpile almost a whole days worth of words so I can enjoy Thanksgiving without the guilt of not writing that day.

Day Nineteen  -  Finally back to writing and I found 1817 more words in me today.  I think I've finally discovered the biggest difference between going into NaNo prepared and flying by the seat of my pants.  When I have been prepared for November, week two is always when I bog down and think I'll never get through it.  This time, unprepared, week two wasn't too bad but week three had been a real pain. I've spent more time writing down ideas and trying to fix issues than I have spent writing my story.  But all is good.  All story related words count toward that ultimate goal of 50,000.   Now if I can only stockpile an extra day before Thanksgiving I'll be a happy happy girl.

Day eighteen - another day of notes and planning and plotting and not moving the story forward on the page.   I almost made the minimum count  with 1655 but not quite I'm sorry to say.  Oh well, I guess I'll enact a No Words, No Wine day and give myself an empty glass.  Hmmm, I did dust and go to the grocery story today so I'm having one glass anyway!!  Take that NaNo!!!
